General Dallaire was asked by the United Nations to ensure that peace was maintained in Rwanda. But he was criminally unsupported by U.N. headquarters and its Security Council in New York. Bishop of Rwanda

    Previously aired April 2007
More than one million people were killed in the Rwandan genocide in 1994 at a daily death rate five times that of the Nazi death camps. Home to hundreds of thousands of orphans, homeless, widowed, and the invisible "walking wounded" - both victim and perpetrator - author John Rucyahana conversely sees this fractured country & recovering wasteland as a "land blessed by God." An inspiring story of courage and conviction, The Bishop of Rwanda: Finding Forgiveness Amidst a Pile of Bones reveals his lifetime journey of a former Rwandan exile who returned home despite danger and peril to rescue his home country from the chaos stemming from the genocide. Anglican Bishop John Rucyahana survived exile, violence in three African countries where he was a refugee, brutal deaths of family members, and threats to his own life. Called a visionary leader by some, including Rwandan President Paul Kagame, and crazy by others for journeying back to a land still in chaos. During the show we surprised Bishop John with a phone call from Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life.
